Binna Burra – Mount Hobwee Circuit 18.2 km return (class 4)
After Joalah Lookout – Woggunba Valley and leaving the Border Track 5.4 km from Binna Burra, this circuit winds through rainforest to Darrayabroo Lookout and the summit of Mount Hobwee (1163 m). Much of the forest near the summit was disturbed by a severe storm in 1983. This are side tracks to Araucaria lookout (additional 5.2 km return) starting 900 m from the Border Track junction, and Wagawn track (additional 3.4km return) starting 2 km m from the Border Track junction. Half way to Wagawn this is another sidetrack (additional 1.2km return) to Warumblebah Lookout, and stunning Garragoolbah Lookout.
The Nothofagus forest and associated communities found here and Mount Merino provide strong evidence of the Gondwana connection. The ‘beech orange’, a species of fungus, occurs only on Nothofagus species found in Australia and South America.
Following Dacelo Lookout, circuit rejoins the Border Track for the return to the Binna Burra car park (7.6 km).
