Lamington National Park – Green Mountains – Box Forest Circuit – 10.9 km return (class 4)
This circuit branches from the Border Track (3.2 km from the trailhead) and leads directly to Canungra Creek West Branch at Picnic Rock and then to Elabana Falls. It leads you through rainforest, past impressive stands of smooth, pink-barked brush box Lophostemon confertus, before reaching the falls. Similar brush box in other parts of the World Heritage area have been radiocarbon-dated at 1500 years, making these giants the oldest ever carbon-dated trees on Australia’s mainland.
Follow to Box Log Falls (Tullerigumai Falls), then cross Toolona Creek, and walk trough misterious rainforest to Yanbacoochie Falls.
Cross again Canungra Creek West Branch and then walk back to the Border Track.
Crossing Canungra Creek West Branch at Yanbacoochie Falls can be challenging after rain, consider going back to Picnic Rock crossing.
